What does a typical season entail?
The choir performs an annual series of three concerts in the Columbia metropolitan area. Each concert is typically presented twice during the same weekend. The season schedule also includes 3-5 additional engagements, which include outreach concerts and events.
What is the expected commitment?
Everyone is expected to sing in the core concerts, as well as participate in choir retreats, outreach concerts, and other scheduled events whenever possible. For most concerts, it is necessary to attend at least 80% of the rehearsals. In some cases, when rehearsal time is limited, singers may be required to attend most or all rehearsals.
Do you charge dues?
To ensure the long-term sustainability of the Sandlapper Singers, dues to participate are $50 per semester. Payment plans are available to ensure that financial hardship does not prohibit an individual from participating in the Choir.
When does the choir rehearse?
We rehearse every Thursday from 7-9 pm from August to April (with a break from late December to late January) at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road in Columbia.
How do I join?
Screenings for new singers are held annually during the summer and occasionally in early January. The process involves a series of vocal exercises that measure tone quality, range, intonation, and musical expression. No prepared music is necessary. To apply to be heard for a screening, click here.
